On December 28th, 2019, the Northern Miner posted its ten “Most-clicked stories of 2019” and M.Plan’s Commentary — Innovation is needed in processing of battery raw materials, originally published on July 5, 2019 and authored by David Anonychuk, Jane Spooner and Reiner Haus — was listed at number 7.

The article discusses the increasing demand and limited supply sources for lithium, cobalt and graphite, noting that over the next 10 years, the expected demand related to battery raw materials to increase four times for lithium, five times for cobalt, and up to seven times for graphite. With this anticipated increase in demand, and with limited supply sources, the mining industry is being driven to primary sources, often with increasingly complex mineralogy.
